Ground and excited state dipole moments of coumarin laser dyes: Investigation by electro-optical absorption and emission methods
1997
Abstract Modified electro-optical absorption and emission methods were used to measure the dipole moments of four efficient coumarin laser dyes (CU1, CU4, CU120, CU334) in the equilibrated ground, excited Franck-Condon and equilibrated excited states. The measurements were performed in cyclohexane (CU1, CU120, CU334) and dioxane (all CUs) at room temperature. Our results show that the charge distribution in CU4 differs substantially from that in the other CUs. The equilibrated ground and excited state dipole moments measured by electro-optical methods are compared with those derived from other measurement techniques and from semiempirical calculations. The possible role of twisted intermole…
Design of Soft Ferrite filters for EMI reduction in Power Conversion Systems
2019
The use of a discrete passive filter is the most attractive solution for EMI reduction in power conversion systems. This is due to its simplicity of concept and efficiency in the frequency range up to tens of megahertz and over. The common mode and differential mode sections of the EMI filter contain capacitors and soft magnetic chokes and, when they are used in the transportation context, their design has to satisfy further constraints in terms of low weight, low volume, low losses and low cost in adjoint to filtering efficiency. In this framework the authors, by using an EMI filter design procedure already setup by themselves, investigate, also with an experimental setup, the possibility …
On the demands on imaging spectrometry for the monitoring of global vegetation fluorescence from space
2013
Vegetation fluorescence when measured from space contributes only a tiny fraction of the signal coming on top of the reflected radiance by the Earth surface and the atmosphere. As a consequence, imaging spectrometers have to provide sufficient throughput and radiometric accuracy to enable accurate global monitoring of the daily to seasonal variations of the Earth's vegetation breath, which is particularly challenging if ground resolutions of a few hundred meters are targeted. Since fluorescence retrieval algorithms have to make corrections for atmospheric effects, it is necessary to provide sufficient spectral resolution, so that signal alterations due to the main parameters such as surface…
Scattering in Strong Magnetic Fields
1985
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses collision processes in the presence of a strong magnetic field. The chapter deals with the potential scattering in a magnetic field arising in connection with the problem of Bremsstrahlung (“free–free transitions”) of an electron in the field. An expression for the photoionization cross section of a one-electron (hydrogenic) system in a magnetic field is also presented. A different approach is required to the problem of ion–atom collisions in a magnetic field because the collision energy E is generally much greater than hωc. Within the two-state model, not only did the magnetic field modify the bound-state wave functions, but, more importantly, it in…
Elastic scattering of 35Cl and 37Cl on 24Mg
1990
Abstract Elastic scattering of 35Cl and 37Cl on 24Mg was measured at two c.m. energies. Optical model analysis with different potentials are compared. Isotopics effects on absorption are observed. The closure approximation model is found to give a good reproduction of experimental data.
Enhanced flexible algorithm for the optimization of slot filling factors in electrical machines †
2020
The continuous development in the field of industrial automation and electric mobility has led to the need for more efficient electrical machines with a high power density. The improvement of electrical machines’ slot filling factors is one of the measures to satisfy these requirements. In recent years, this topic has aroused greater interest in the industrial sector, since the evolution of the winding technological manufacturing processes allows an economically sustainable realization of ordered winding arrangements, rather than random ones. Moreover, the manufacture of electrical machines’ windings must be preceded by an accurate design phase in which it is possible to evaluate the maximu…
A software for the evaluation of winding factor harmonic distribution in high efficiency electrical motors and generators
2013
In this paper a software developed for the determination of winding connections, the calculation of winding factors and the evaluation of their harmonic distribution of three and two phase windings is presented by using as input data simply the number of slots, pole pairs and phases. The software is implemented as a function in MATLAB environment. By means of some examples, covering the most relevant winding types, the capabilities of this software will be shown. Particularly, integer and fractional single and double layer winding can be treated. Some examples are presented and briefly discussed. The connections, the winding factor harmonic distribution, the electro-motive force (e.m.f) THD…
Performance Comparison of Electrical Motors equipped with slightly Asymmetrical Windings
2019
This paper presents a comparison between the performances of electrical machines equipped with slightly asymmetrical windings. More in detail, by modifying the stator geometry of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine equipped with a symmetrical winding configuration, other two slightly asymmetrical winding topologies are obtained. The three models are, then, analyzed by means of a finite element method (FEM) and the related results are compared in terms of cogging torque, static characteristics and leakage factor. The obtained results demonstrate that the adoption of slightly asymmetrical windings could be an interesting alternative solution during the design stage of electrical …
